National: Jenny McCarthy tells about her son
Summary: Jenny McCarthy thought, just like any other mom would do that her child was normal. When two-year-old Evan started to have terrifying seizures, Jenny new something was up. She went to the doctor and that is where she found out that her son had autism. They were waiting in the doctor’s office when this nice old man walked in. He sat down and Jenny started to talk to him about what was going on with her son. The doctor looked at her son and after evaluating the boys behavior he pulled a chair up to Jenny, grabbed her hand, and old her that he was sorry to tell her that her son had autism. She was stunned, but since then she has done everything in her power to make her boy better. She has written a book and also done some talk shows, talking about the difficulties that she has faced and warning other parents about autism and what she thinks causes it. She has stunned many Americans and made many mothers aware of autism.
Opinion: I believe that she is doing everything possible to make others aware of autism. She is trying to prevent the disease. She doesn’t want anyone to go through what she and Evan have gone through. She is trying to reach out to others and she is doing a really great job. Her son is doing much better and by showing that there is a light at the end of every tunnel it gives hope to those who have children with autism and letting them know that there is hope to healing. She has definitely caught my attention and I would love to do anything to help.
International: Madeleine McCann mismatch
Summary: A girl was photographed in Morocco that was said to be the missing toddler from London, England (Madeleine McCann). Many were stunned and excited. But on Wednesday the reporters declared this to be wrong information. The little girl was not Madeleine but a young girl named Bushra Binhisa whose father is a farmer in Morocco. The Lawyer of the McCann’s says that if this news is true that it will be very disappointing. The Parents of Madeleine have not commented about this story about the girl in the photos.
Opinion: I believe that whoever took these pictures and released them saying that the girl had been found, owes the McCann family and the family of the girl in the photograph an apology. The photographer has caused a major uproar of disappointment. The photographer has probably caused major heartache too. I believe that it is the right thing to do is to not have released anything until you know for a fact that what you are releasing is true. What happened with this story is a tragedy and I wish the family of Madeleine the best and I pray they find their daughter.
National: 2 year old is mauled to death by dogs
Summary: This past Tuesday in Lincoln County, N.C. a two year old was mauled to death by neighbors dogs. The little boy was at his grandfather’s house playing when he wandered off into the woods where two dogs were chained up. The grandfather of the little boy said that the boy’s best friend was a boxer and that he was probably trying to make nice with the dogs. An hour later rescuers found him tangled in the chain with the two dogs standing over him. The owners of the dogs willing gave the dogs up and the dogs are now being held at Lincoln Animal Control. The dogs will be euthanized in 10 days.
Opinion: I believe that the family of this child should have been keeping a closer eye on the boy. The boy was two years old he is still learning about right and wrong and probably didn’t know better not to bother the dogs. The family is to blame just like the neighbors are to blame for having such crucial animals. It’s weird to think that no one heard the boy scream or heard the dogs barking and growling. To me this story seems a little fishy and something is not being told.
International: The Three Gorges Dam
Summary: Beijing, China is facing severe concern on the Three Gorges Dam. The dam had been very helpful in not allowing flooding on the city and keeping the environment safe. But now they are concerned of overflowing and causing land slides around the dam. They are afraid of the hills around the dam getting flooded and causing severe landslides causing damages to the area around the dam. They are now trying to work out a plan to make sure that this does not happen. They are doing everything in their power to come up with ideas to solve this problem.
Opinion: I believe that at this point there is nothing to be done but to come up with ideas to prevent this tragedy from happening. If this were to happen this would be a major disaster and could have the possibility of whipping out many things around the area. I believe that if they think this overflowing could happen anytime soon they should evacuate the area because there is now way of knowing how many deaths this could cause (to many to count). I believe that they will make the right decision on what to do.

National - Delaware State teen charged for attempted murder says he is sorry. Loyer D. Brown was escorted to court Monday and when confronted by a reporter, he simply said,"I'm sorry." When the reporter asked what he was sorry for, Brown said," She is in the hospital." Brown was charged and arrested for attempted murder, reckless endangerment, and assault. There were three victims total. One victim, 17-year-old Shalita Middleton, is being treated for abdominal wounds at Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware. The other two victims, Nathaniel Pugh III and James Richmond, are also hospitalized for non-life threatening injuries. Braden's bail is set at $75,000.
Opinion - Colleges these days are not as safe as they used to be. Ever since the 32 deaths at Virginia Tech, college students are more aware of the people they are around and what they are doing. It is a shame that such a small confrontation can stem into gunshots being fired. I pray for the safe recovery of the three victims and that justice will be swift and unrelenting.
International - 2 Italian soldiers were freed from captors in Afghanistan. Two Italians, an Afghani translator, and their driver were all kidnapped over the weekend. Italian and British forces carried a military operation to save the abducted. The military operation was a success in that no allied casualties were taken, the kidnapped were freed and all the captors, nine in all, were killed. The translator and the driver conditions however, are not known. The Italians were considered to be missing after they did not cross the next military checkpoint at a certain time. rescuers worked quickly to find the group in fear of the captors giving them to a different bunch of people to be hidden away. It is not known whether or not the abductors were Taliban extremists or common criminals.

Iran is smuggling advanced weapons, including surface-to-air missiles, into Iraq to be used by extremists against American troops, the US military charged on Sunday.
US military spokesman Rear Admiral Mark Fox told reporters in Baghdad that Iran was shifting sophisticated arms such as "RPG-29s, explosively-formed penetrators (EFPs), 240 mm rockets and Misagh-1 surface-to-air missiles" across its borders into Iraq.
An EFP is a feared roadside bomb which when it explodes emits a white-hot slug of molten copper that can cut through the armoured skins of US military vehicles.
Fox reiterated that Iranian national Mahmudi Farhadi, detained on Thursday in the northern province of Sulaimaniyah, is one of the kingpins in the bomb smuggling operations.
"He is a member of the Ramazan Corps, the Quds Force department responsible for all operations in Iraq," Fox said.
Against this backdrop, Columbia invites Iran's president to speak. Columbia University's president, Lee Bollinger, gives a speech stating some things that we all know to be true --that Iran is at war with the West and is a cruelly repressive regime. Bollinger sits down, and Ahmadinejad schools him, and especially his hapless dean, as well as the audience and the world on how propaganda works. Some, including Dean Barnett below, express surprise and admiration for the Bollinger remarks. Talk about the soft bigotry of low expectations! Bollinger's remarks are the equivalent of the apology offered by the reckless driver to the victim of his recklessness. The dean's dismal performance afterwards illustrates why this was a fiasco from the start. The too polite dean dared not cut the fanatic off or press a question as central as Israel's right to exist! Meanwhile the networks catering to the jihadists will be slicing and dicing the fanatic's remarks; he will earn the admiration of radicals across the Arab world for standing up to the Americans; and the repressed people of Iran, especially the students who cannot speak out, the press that is muzzled, and the gays who don't exist will get all of Ahmadinejad and little if any of Bollinger. His bail was posted at 75,000 dollars and the judge told him to stay away from the victims and Deleware State. Braden turned out to be a Freshman at Deleware state. In response to reporters' questions, he said "I'm sorry." Asked what he was sorry for, he replied only"She's in the hospital."Nathaniel Pugh III, a freshman biology major, told his mother he had left the cafe when he heard two gunshots about 1 a.m. and started running. A third shot caught him in the ankle, shattering two bones

What is up with kids these days? Especially college kids. We have this happen and like a month ago a college roommate stabbed her roommate to death. I really would like to know whats going through this kids head.. what the heck triggered him to do this? I hate to break it to him but sorry just doesnt cut it.

The Columbia University President, Lee Bollinger, slammed President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Monday September 24 2007 when you brought to light that the Iranian President does not believe that the Holocaust happened, Public executions and the execution of minors. Mr. Bollinger was quoted as saying "Mahmoud exibits the signs of a petty and cruel leader". He cited the Iranian Government "brutal crackdown". Bollinger thought that the Iranian President would not show intellectual courage with the questions that were asked. The Iranian President quickly responded saying that people have the right to questions History and that they is not sufficient research of the Holocaust from diffrent perspectives. The Irianian President seemed irritated at the fact that Bollinger brought about these claims before the speech.
Opinion:
I think that Columbia University bringing this man to their school was the wrong thing to do. I think that it would have a negative effect on things and a postive though. The negative being that people hear what this man has to say and it probably wont be the best thing for people to hear and that puts him out there for the world to hear. The positive being people will see how crazy this guy is and how messed up he is in the head. Im glad that the President of Columbia University spoke out against this man and didnt sugar coat anything. Two Italian soliders were kidnapped in western Afghanistan over the weekend. The soldiers were freeded later in an operation NATO. They said they didnt know who the kidnappers were and if they were Taliban Militant or "Common Criminals"
Opinion:
This makes me extremely happy because this shows that we are not going to back down and that these men cannot bring us down. It would not suprise me at all if they kidnappers turned out to be Taliban Militant. These people hate anyone would is helping us or anyone who is even over there and is not one of them.
The Columbia University President, Lee Bollinger, slammed President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Monday September 24 2007 when you brought to light that the Iranian President does not believe that the Holocaust happened, Public executions and the execution of minors. Mr. Bollinger was quoted as saying "Mahmoud exibits the signs of a petty and cruel leader". He cited the Iranian Government "brutal crackdown". Bollinger thought that the Iranian President would not show intellectual courage with the questions that were asked. The Iranian President quickly responded saying that people have the right to questions History and that they is not sufficient research of the Holocaust from diffrent perspectives. The Irianian President seemed irritated at the fact that Bollinger brought about these claims before the speech.
Opinion:
I think that Columbia University bringing this man to their school was the wrong thing to do. I think that it would have a negative effect on things and a postive though. The negative being that people hear what this man has to say and it probably wont be the best thing for people to hear and that puts him out there for the world to hear. The positive being people will see how crazy this guy is and how messed up he is in the head. Im glad that the President of Columbia University spoke out against this man and didnt sugar coat anything. Burma's largest anti-government protest in nearly two decades has taken place in the former capital Rangoon, led by Buddhist monks and nuns. Over 20,000 people took to the streets calling for and end to the evil dictatorship. Police barred a group of monks from entering the road that leads to the home of detained opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi. These protests have been going on since last month. They began when the fuel prices doubled. The protests are growing in size and power every day. The monks are now challenging the military and are calling all the citizens to join. The mood was peaceful and euphoric the citizens joined the monks in chanting for thier key demands; reconciliation with the opposition, the release of political prisoners and lower prices.
HooRay I like monks and I like protests, so naturally I love this article. Hopefully this protest doesn't end tragically with a bunch of dead monks, because that would make me sad.

In Yorktown a man accused of snatching another man's false teeth straight from his mouth during a fight has been charged with robbery. Robert Henry Sthal, a 62 year old man, was charged with robbery and and battery. If He is convicted of robbery he is looking at two to eight years in prison.The victim Billie Townsend told police he went to a bar on July 27 to pay Stahl money he owed him, then Stahl asked him to go outside and started punching him repeatedly.During the fight, Stahl allegedly put Townsend in a headlock and removed his false teeth. "He said, 'You ain't getting these back,'"
That makes me laugh. I wish I were there to see it. Can you imagine two guys in their sixties beating the tar out of eachother. Then the older of the two guys pulls the other's teeth out. That's like watching seniors doing a drive by in a golf cart.

Summary - A cbsnews.com article said that a man made over six hundred phone calls to several shoe stores. With each phone call, the man asked what shoes the women he was to talking to were wearing along with if they would show him their feet. The man who was going by Brian Thompson was traced to his real name Fink from Martinsburg. Fink was arrested in August and pleaded guilty to harassment. He was then sentenced Wednesday.
Opinion - Okay.. that is slightly creepy. A man calls a shoe store and asks the woman on the phone what shoes she's wearing and if he could see her feet. Well, that's more than just slightly creepy. I guess it's good that he was arrested. The one good thing about this is that it's thanks to creeps like Fink that make me seem not so strange. Hooray for foot fetishes!
