Welcome to the Good Life! (Omar)
National - Bush's account of Iran report challenged. Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Joe Biden on Tuesday said he can't believe President Bush hasn't known for months about a recent intelligence estimate that downplays the nuclear threat from Iran. Other Democratic candidates also slammed Bush for continuing to ratchet up the rhetoric against Tehran. Bush told reporters during a White House news conference that he was not told the details of the new assessment until last week and he said the new report, which found that Iran had halted its nuclear weapons work in 2003, will not change U.S. policy toward Iran.
Opinion - Well this is interesting. Either President George Bush has been spoon-feeding the American public false information for the past four years, or the Democratic candidate just wants backing from Bush haters. It's hard to believe considering the accuser and the accused. In my opinion, I do agree that Iran is just postponing their goals rather than completely halting them. Also, I don't see peace with Iran coming anytime soon.
International - China denies spying in UK claims. A news report claiming Chinese agencies were spying on British companies via the Internet was irresponsible and incorrect, China's Foreign Ministry said Tuesday.
The Times of London reported Saturday that Jonathan Evans, who heads Britain's spy agency MI5, sent letters to 300 executives and security chiefs at banks, accountancies and legal firms warning them that "Chinese state organizations" were hacking into their systems through the Internet and stealing confidential information. On Tuesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang denied the report, saying China opposed computer hacking and that it was cooperating with British authorities. He also accused the British media of spreading inaccurate information."We express strong dissatisfaction. It is a very irresponsible act," Qin said of the British news report. The Times said the letter told its recipients how to identify Chinese "Trojans" -- e-mails carrying software designed to hack into a computer network and feed back confidential data.
Opinion - China is a crazy place. I for one would never ever want to live there. Especially being persecuted for being a Christian. thats not good for me. If these reports are true, then international relations are really starting to get heated and freaky. this is not looking good for the world. Hopefully this doesn't turn into anything serious other than just false accusations. hopefully.
National - Young man's suicide blamed on mother's cult. The suicide of a young man and the murder he committed before he killed himself are being blamed on a cult led by his mother. The sect's activities and history are detailed in a newly released book, "Jesus Freaks." The sect was founded in California in the 1960s by David Berg, who referred to himself as "Mo," short for Moses. Berg was a self-proclaimed prophet. Former members say Berg and Zerby wrote about their beliefs in papers distributed to members. It was Berg's how-to guide for raising sexual children. The Family International now says all "questionable publications were officially renounced and expunged between the late 1980s and early 1990s."
Opinion - Wow. this is crazy! what mother would first of all, run a cult, blaspheme against God, and have sex with her son? This is totally nuts! I wonder if she was dropped when she was a baby or something. it sure would be able to explain alot. I wonder if she feels bad for she led her son to do.
International - U.S. puts sanctions on Mugabe associates. The United States will impose travel and financial sanctions against 38 more people and two companies with ties to Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, a senior State Department official said. Jendayi Frazer, assistant secretary of state for African affairs, warned in a speech Monday that the U.S. will expand the sanctions further if violence does not cease, saying "Mugabe's tyranny needs to end." She did not identify the individuals or the companies affected, but said they included nine state security officials and five adult children of Zimbabwean government officials studying in the United States. The United States had previously imposed travel and financial sanctions against 130 people with ties to Mugabe.
Opinion - Well i dont know too much about Zimbabwe but i do know the stories of their so called leader. He is a tyrant plain and simple. I can't possibly understand how so many people can be brainwashed into backing someone who cause more problems instead of solving them. This man claims that his country's inflaton rate is due to woes with the western world. Bull$*&%.

National - So here’s something I didn’t know: Arizona has a new moonbeam collector out in Three Points (where is that?). A Tucson businessman and inventor, Richard Chapin, built the wife for possible medicinal, industrial, and agricultural uses. It seems more likely it was built for no real reason except Richard wanted to and because he has some nutty views about the power of the reflected sunlight off the moon’s surface. Chapin calls the big-ole-thing the “Interstellar Light Collector". It’s hard to describe without going into many words so you can check out the article to see a picture. The thing cost $2 million and has so far attracted 1,000 visitors.
Opinion – Personally, I think this thing is a just nutty and the moonbeam collector probably doesn’t any practical uses. But it still looks and sounds cool, and I definitely want to go see it sometime. The article mentioned people listening to ambient music while “bathing” in the moonlight, and I think that’s something I could get into.
National – So a guy murdered his father with a machete in Alaska. There’s a very nice picture of him on msn. His name is Christopher Erin Rogers Jr. He also shot a killed one other person and shot and wounded three others at random, just because he wanted to kill more people before he was caught (+ he was caught in a high-speed chase). The article I read gives no motives for this man’s violence.
Opinion – I think this is what Mr. Gumm calls “Passive Aggressive Disorder”, except in this case it turned active, so I guess it is “Active Aggressive Disorder”. It’s frightening to think that people so prone to violence could shoot you at any time just because they want to kill someone. But at least this guy was inventive and used a machete instead of a plain old knife. And that picture of him is creepy.
International – New US Intelligence reports that Iran halted work on nuclear weapons four years ago, but Bush is urging the international community to not let up on Iran. His reasoning is in case they restart the program. However, this new intelligence contradicts earlier reports from the Bush administration and serves to weaken Bush’s earlier arguments that Iran posed the threat of starting WWIII. Bush is also being criticized for being all talk and no action as he recently called his first news conference in seven weeks.
Opinion – It’s a relief to know that Iran stopped their program, and I agree we shouldn’t let up on them in case they were to restart it. However, it does seem Bush should have at least recognized the discrepancy between earlier reports and the new intelligence. And I’m not sure I don’t agree that maybe he isn’t trying hard enough to find bipartisan solutions to issues, rather than being a stick in the mud.
International – In Rome at Herculaneum, a Roman throne made of wood and ivory has been discovered under volcanic mud from Mount Vesuvius. The throne belonged to Julius Caesar’s father-in-law, Lucius Calpurnius Piso Caesoninus. The scene on the throne depicts Attis, a Roman cult-deity who went through a cycle of life, death and rebirth as pine tree.
Opinion – This is pretty cool. I’d like to see it. I also think the whole idea of Attis is interesting, because of the parallels to the figure of Christ who died on a tree rather than being reborn as one.

As family and friends hold the funeral today for 20 year old Lauren Barnes and her unborn baby, Eric Phan, a student police believe is the baby's father and Barnes killer sits in an Oklahoma City jail, not yet formally charged with a crime. A state medical examiner said Barnes likely died of asphyxiation, "which could mean choking," Troutman said. The affidavit of probable cause filed Friday by Troutman to the district court in Oklahoma County lays out in chilling detail exactly what police believe took place, ending with Phan, an occasional lover of Barnes, confessing to the murder to his best friend, David Huynh.
Opinion:
What the heck is this world coming to?! Its always the quiet ones that get you. Everyone thinks asians are all quiet and just read but I, Kellye Harkey, know better---wow okay ill stop. But seriously who does this guy think he is? This is why people you do not have sex until you get married. Not only to avoid having a kid or having anal warts (ewww) but so you do not get murdered!! All I can say is if this kid goes to jail he will pay because theres two things criminals do not like, People who hurt kids and Men who kill their pregnant wives or girlfriends..Good luck with that.
International:
Two baby girls mistakenly swapped at birth went home to their biological parents in time for their first birthdays, reports said Tuesday. DNA tests earlier this year revealed that the two sets of parents had taken the wrong baby home from a clinic southeast of Prague nearly a year ago. For the last few weeks, the girls have been spending time with their biological parents, several days at a stretch. "It's an attempt for a permanent solution," the father of one of the girls, Libor Broza, was quoted as saying. The parents agreed to swap their daughters and discussed several dates for their return, including the girls' first birthday, Dec. 9, or New Year's Day.
Opinion:.
Wait, So they are going to keep swapping the kids? What the heck is that all about? What kind of Hospital or whatever they have in Prague would let this happen? I think they should just swap the kids once and for all. That would be so confusing to be a little kid and have 2 sets of parents. Do they want these kids to go into a crazy house? I think not people.
