Summary:
The Coast Guard has been investigating the hangman’s nooses found in a black cadet’s sea bag and in the office of a female civil rights instructor since July. The CG has not found the people responsible for these acts but still plan on searching. The nooses have been a symbol of hatred for African Americans for years. The CG and government are ready to see the hatred finally disappear. Thursday, the head of U.S. Coast Guard and a congressman went to the Coast Guard Academy to talk about these events to the cadets.
Opinion:
I’m sick of people judging and acting on the sole base of race. I thought we overcame this hatred for the most part during the Civil Rights Acts. I know it took a while for people to change their feelings on black people but apparently not all those judgments have been distinguished. I pray to God these events are not the start of another upbringing of hatred for the African Americans. First the Jena 6 and now this…what’s this country thinking!

Summary:
The adoption process between Guatemala and the U.S. has begun to be questioned. The adoptions between these two countries have been happening for years and are a vital reason so many people have grown up living in stable American families. On January 1, 2008, the adoption processes will be suspended for suspicion of illegal adoption processes. There are suspicions of adoption agencies not performing the legal steps of adopting to in order to receive money. Also it is believed that women have been posing as mothers of the children in order to receive money from the agencies. All the suspicions are being investigated and during the process Americans are advised to halt in searching for adoption within Guatemala.
Opinion:
I totally agree that the situations need to be searched out and solved. There is not excuse for illegal adoption. It’s sad to think of all those babies who could have been kidnapped in order to be “sold” to the Americans. While I think the Americans are innocent, there can certain situations when anyone could be a suspect to illegal processing. I hope these investigations will soon be completed so that the millions of babies in Guatemala can be cared for properly.
