Thai patient in hospital for cancer fatally bitten by snake

Summary
A cancer patient lying on a gurney waiting to be treated was fatally bitten by a snake, a hospital in western Thailand said Friday.
A pit viper bit the man last week at Kanchanaburi Memorial Hospital in Kanchanaburi province, 70 miles west of Bangkok. He died on Tuesday, four days after the snake bit him.
Gurneys at the hospital, in a semi-rural area, are usually laid outside the hospital buildings to wait for incoming patients, and the snake apparently slithered onto the gurney when it was outdoors.
Chamni Chittriprasert, a spokesman of the Health Ministry's Medical Science Department, said that it is rare for a person to die from a pit viper bite, but that the man's case was fatal because his liver cancer had weakened his body.

opinion
It is kind of sad that the man died by a snake. I would have never thought that a human can actually die by a snake. Death after 4days is really scary for me. It is questionable that how can a poison can change to a cancer. It takes long time to find cancer and to heal, but this man died in a week. If I was the wife I would accuse the hospital because I think they doctors did not carefully look throught his body.

Bomb kills 2 British troops in Afghanistan
Two British soldiers were killed and another soldier and an interpreter were wounded in a bomb blast Wednesday in the Helmand province of Afghanistan, Britain's Defense Ministry said.
The bomb went off as the troops were on patrol.
Also on Wednesday, Afghan police and coalition troops battled Taliban militants in southern Afghanistan and killed more than two dozen of the insurgents.
The fighting occurred more than 10 miles northwest of the Sangin District Center in Helmand province when militants ambushed Afghan National Auxiliary Police officers and coalition advisers on a combat patrol, the coalition said.
The fighting started when a "squad-size element of extremist Taliban" ambushed "the patrol with small-arms, machine gun and rocket-propelled grenade fire from several buildings within the village limits," the coalition said.
The security forces returned fire and the militants "reinforced their positions with additional fighters and also started firing from an extensive trench line located throughout the village," it said.
Coalition aircraft were called in and pounded "positively identified enemy positions using precision guided munitions."
Along with the Taiban deaths, a non-combatant was injured "by enemy fire as he attempted to flee the village prior to the engagement,"

opinion
I wonder when the war will end in Afghanistan. Soldiers die anyday at anytime which makes a huge worries to their family. when the soldiers are far away they miss them very much. It is very sad that two soldiers died in bomb. most of soldiers died in bomb. Although he will put as
killed in action, their family will miss him.

Cop charged in police dog's hot car death
A suburban police officer is accused of leaving a police dog in a patrol car for more than 12 hours on a 109-degree day, killing the animal.Chandler police Sgt. Tom Lovejoy was booked into the Maricopa County jail on a misdemeanor charge of animal cruelty after a two-week investigation into the death of a 5-year-old Belgian Malinois named Bandit.
He was released later Wednesday, said Capt. Paul Chagolla, a spokesman for the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.
The sheriff's investigation showed Bandit was in Lovejoy's patrol car from about 9 a.m. to shortly after 10 p.m. August 11. During that time, the investigation found, the officer ran errands, napped and ate out with his wife. Lovejoy later found the dog dead in the car. Chandler Police Chief Sherry Kiyler said in a statement that the department respects and supports the criminal justice system and its processes, and that an internal investigation has been launched

opinion
it is a tragedy. killing a dog is not aproperiate. I think that policeman should be accused or be punished. He deserves to be punished because first, he killed a dog without any reason which is very heavy to get an excuse. sis zf

Substance found at United Nations not toxic, police say.A substance removed from the United Nations office last week is not a toxic chemical agent, police and a U.N. official told CNN on Thursday.Tests at a military facility in Maryland identified the substance as a nontoxic commercial solvent, said Paul J. Brown, deputy commissioner of the New York City Police Department.
In late August, U.N. archivists unexpectedly turned up samples of material from an Iraqi chemical weapons plant in 1996.
Accompanying paperwork identified the substance as phosgene, a choking agent used in World War I.

opinion
The new substance may or may not give advantage in our universe. I think scientist should work on the new substances and invent a new substance or reactions. If the new substance is a noxious, then there might be a change to the land. And I think it will be useful to our mankind.
