GOP Debaters Trade Fire before Super Tuesday
SUMMARY
In Simi Valley, CA at the Reagan Presidential Library, McCain and Romney attacked each other’s conservative ideals as they fought for their party’s top spot before Super Tuesday. One big point during the debate was when Romney asked McCain about his campaign charge about removing troops from Iraq. Romney has consistently denied ever being in favor of backing a timetable and claimed McCain took his quote out of context. But McCain accused Romney of hedging after public support for the war waned. The back-and-forth between McCain and Romney threatened to dominate the evening. The debate came as the last four candidates wrestle for top position come Super Tuesday.
OPINION
I would have liked to have seen the debate because they are always better on TV. But it sounds as though McCain did not win this won, or Romney. They both seemed to go at it all night, because they know it’s coming down to them in the finals for the republican nominee. I just find it funny that Romney went after McCain and said that he took his quote out of context because everyone in the political race right now is taking everything out of context to attack their opposition. It happened to Hilary and now to Romney. Everyone’s doing it, so just stand your ground and be like no I didn’t do that and here’s why. But whatever.
Schwarzenegger Backs McCain for GOP Nomination
SUMMARY
In L.A., CA governor Schwarzenegger announced that he is endorsing McCain. In doing so he lauded McCain’s crusade against wasteful spending, national security, and environmental and economic stewardship. He said that he was giving him his blessing and he is interested in the future and that McCain has proven over and over that he can reach beyond. McCain is also set to receive endorsements from two of Georgia’s senators: Isakson and Chambliss. McCain said that Texas Governor Rick Perry would endorse him later that day. Schwarzenegger was also quoted saying before the get together was over, “He’s a great American and an extraordinary leader.”
OPINION
I think it’s great that McCain has got so many political people backing him in different states; hopefully it helps him win the big states in the primaries and presidential election. I do that McCain is a bit old to be president but he is very popular outside of Arizona and has had a lot of experience in the Senate and under George Bush for 8 years. I think McCain has a lot of good ideas, but so does Romney. I feel Romney is a good speaker and very camera friendly. It could come down to a close race and already is looking that way.
Internet Failure Hits Two Continents
SUMMARY
High Technology services across large of Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa was crippled Thursday after undersea cable believed to have been damaged in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The widespread internet failure brought many businesses to a standstill and left other struggling to cope. Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Kuwait, Bahrain, Pakistan, United Arab Emirates, and India are all experiencing sever problems. Israel, Lebanon and Iraq were safe because like other countries they have satellite backup in case of cable failure. Several reports say the damaged cables in the Mediterranean could take up to a week to fix.
OPINION
First of all I never knew there were cables in the Mediterranean. But I guess that’s one way to do it. I’m guessing it’s cheaper than having a satellite or something. Anyway, this problem kind of sucks for the 8 countries that is facing serious internet problems. It doesn’t just frustrate the people but the businesses that try to run the country. I this happened in America, which would be like impossible, but hypothetically speaking, it would cause chaos and serious frustration because everyone relies on the internet for everything.
Ghana Coach to Face DC (African Cup of Nations 2008, Ghana)
SUMMARY
Coach Claude Le Roy could face sanctions from the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) if found guilty on charges of misconduct during Ghana’s group tie against Morocco at Ohen Djan Stadium in Accra during the week. Le Roy was summoned by the CAF Disciplinary Committee to answer to the charges of misconduct. The French coach was alleged to have violated article 132 of CAF Disciplinary Code. Le Roy was alleged to have asked the General Coordinator for reason why the pitch was not watered insisting he was a Muslim like them (referring to the Moroccan team). Article 132: anyone who publicly disparages, discriminates against or denigrates someone in a defamatory manner on account of race, color, language, religion or ethnic origin, or perpetrates any other racist and/or contemptuous act, will be subject to match suspension for at least five matches at every level. A stadium ban of at least $3000 will be imposed on him if found guilty. Le Roy has been given 24 hours to respond to the allegation.
OPINION
I was surprised that he would say that. First of all he’s coaching an “African” team and now harasses another “African” team at the African Cup of Nations, how dumb could you be. The Spanish coach did it at the world cup, calling the black French players niggers and such, you get the idea, on tape. It may seem like a minor deal but racial indifference in Africa and Europe has been a big issue and people coming in and doing this just make it harder for CAF and UEFA to stop the indifference. I hope he gets fined and punished and most of all comes out and apologizes, because that shows true character.

McCain's attacks seem extremely personal and venomious.
People looking for jobs in McCain's cabinet.
Scary how dependent we are on the internet. Not a good thing.
