International: Halloway case is closed

Summary: Authorities have closed the investigation into the disappearance of Natalee Holloway and do not have enough evidence to charge anyone, the prosecutors' office said Tuesday. The three young men who were last seen with the teen have all been notified they will not be charged. The family is terribly disappointed that the case was closed. The prosecutors said in a statement they believe the three young men last seen with her are involved but they do not have enough evidence to make any charges.

Opinion: It's tragic what the Halloway family has gone through these past years. All the up and downs of this case have most likely been extremely hard on this poor family and this is just a terrible way for it too end. There is no closure only the feeling of emptiness.

National: Cell Spending to top Land Line Spending

Summary: 2007 is likely to be the first calender year in which US households spend more money on cell phone service and industry than on land line phones. Recent data indicates Americans spent an average of $542 on land lines and $524 on cell phone bills in 2006 indicating a major shift in telecommunications. As recent as 2001 US households spent three times as much on land lines than cell phones. There are roughly 170 million landlines in use nationwide and 25o million cell phones.

Opinion: It does not surprise I can remember just a few years back when not everyone you saw had a cell phone and now they are everywhere. The rise of cell phones has been almost a quiet revolution, they slowly became more and more prevalent and feasible then bam everyone has a cell phone. Today its not uncommon to see kids starting junior high with cell phones in hand. I love my phone and they are convenient but the rise of cell phones is not only opening a new market where everyone needs there own phone but it is also revolutionizing society as we know introducing a whole new aspect to communication with text messaging and picture messaging.

International: 49 TB patients escape from S. African hospital

Summary: 49 highly infectious tuberculosis patients cut through wire fencing and broke of a hospital isolation unit because they wanted to spend Christmas with their families. The mass escape illustrates the problems faced by South Africa as it tries to fend off an epidemic of almost uncurable TB that feeds off the aids virus and kills most of its victims. South Africa has an estimated 4.5 million people living with aids.

Opinion: South
