National: 10 are dead after Pennsylvania house fire
http://news.aol.com/story/_a/pennsylvania-house-fire-kills-10/20080403131909990001

In a home in a rural town in west Pennsylvania, police and fire fighters found the bodies of 10 people in a fire engulfed house. The fire started at 2:45am and fire fighters were there within minutes, but by the time the fire fighters arrived the house had been devoured by flames. Two people escaped the burning house, and ran over to neighbors for help. The father of the family was at work doing his usual night shift when the fire started. The ages of those who died range from 40 to 4 months.

This is a horrible tragedy. I can’t even begin to comprehend what is going through the minds of those who survived the fire, what a devastating situation. 6 years ago next week I heard a story similar to this when I found out my friend Bobby had died in a fire, so I guess I kind of can relate to what they must be going through, but this is so devastating. The police say they hadn’t found anything suspicious, and I hope it stays that way.

International: Virus Hits Many In Brazil
http://news.aol.com/story/_a/virus-outbreak-hits-thousands-in-brazil/20080403162709990001

The sometimes deadly dengue virus has infected more than 55,000 people in Brazil. The mosquito transferred virus has killed 67 people this year in Brazil, most of which were elderly people and children under 13. Officials say that hospitals are being swarmed and they don’t have enough beds to hold all of the patients coming in with the virus. The symptoms of the virus are high fever, eye pain, vomiting, backaches, rashes and more.

This seems like a daunting task. 55,000 people coming down with the same thing, and such a horrible thing, it must be insane down there right now. One man said he was watching his son die, that would be so horrible to have to just sit for 20 hours waiting to see someone while your child is so sick. I hope they can find ways to get rid of the mosquito problems they are having down there.

International: A Disturbing Story Out Of India
http://news.aol.com/story/_a/blood-racket-drained-poor-indians/20080403164109990001

An Indian man heard about a mysterious high paying job being offered from someone’s house. But it was far from getting a job, once he arrived at the house he and 14 others were trapped and held in a small room in the slums of a small town in India. Their blood was forcefully drawn and sold to make profits. 2 weeks ago police made the rescue, and arrested 5 people, but not the ring leader. All the men are doing ok now, but it expected that many in India are drawn into this.

What a horrible thing to do to another human. Something I just don’t understand how anyone could do that to make money, and then go home and sleep at night. I hope these sicko people get what they deserve in jail.

National: Jobless rates rise.
http://news.aol.com/business/story/_a/jobless-claims-climb-to-2-year-high/20080403094709990002
The amount of people signing up for unemployment benefits hit a 2 year high this past week. Most site this as proof that the economy is slowing for a longer period of time then expected. Most blame the rise on the horrible housing, credit, and financial markets right now. The national unemployment rate is now at 4.8 percent and is expected to rise above 5 percent in April. The Federal government has cut key interests rates to try and make an incentive for people and companies to continue spending money.

I can’t believe what is going on right now! First people are stupid and have eyes bigger than there wallets. Most of the people in these homes should have never gotten into them in the first place and it’s not my job to pay for them to get out of there mistakes. Another thing, the Safeway I work at is still under staffed, we just hired a new girl at Starbucks this week, are hiring one next week, and are still keeping another slot open for an applicant. Finding a job isn’t that difficult, it may not be as much as they were making, but 10 bucks an hour isn’t that bad.
