International:
In Colombia a suspected drug lord was arrested. The suspect, Diego Montoya, appears on the FBI's top 10 most wanted list. He's accused of producing tons of cocaine for the US market. He is described as armed and extremely dangerous. He is getting help from the left-winged guerrillas and the right-winged parliment. There has been an award of five million dollars set for any one who has any information leading to his arrest.
This is pretty crazy. That somone in such a low possition could become so powerful. He's a drug lord that get's help from the government and the radicals. Just the thought of that happening in america scares me.
International 2:
Gunmen in southern Nigeria kidnapped 11 officials of the peoples democratic party (pdp). The gunmen said their motive was revenge for not being paid for their in rigging April's election. They are demanding a randsom of nearly 4 million dollars. However, the PDP is denying the claims of the rigged election and say they will give the gunmen nothing. more than 200 oil workers have been kidnapped since early 2006 but all were returned safely once the randsom was paid.
That is a frightening statistic. 200 people kidnapped in one year. Oil is the new root of all evil or at least the money that derives from it. The 11 kidnapped people might have been in the wrong as well as the kidnappers, if the gunmens claim is correct. I feel bad for the people of Nigeria.
