National: Richardson ends Presidential Bid

Summary: New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson ended his bid for the Democratic presidential nomination on Thursday. The Governor finished poorly in the first two primary contests. Despite having one of the most impressive resumes of any candidate, which included; time in congress, a member of President Clinton's Cabinet, U.S. Ambassador to the U.N., the New Mexico Statehouse, and work as a freelance diplomat. He conceded saying he was proud of his campaign and what he was able to accomplish in the face of the Democratic front-runners. He did not endorse another candidate.

Opinion: Bill Richardson could never break out of his status as a second tier candidate and in the end that proved to be his undoing. He simply could not compete with the 3 main candidates despite lasting through the first two primary contests and sticking around longer than other Democratic contenders. I believe it is an encouraging sign to have such a diverse range of candidates in the Democratic primary and it bodes well for the future.

International: Sir Edmund Hillary has died

Summary: Legendary Mountaineer Sir Edmund Hillary has died of a heart attack at Auckland Hospital in Auckland, New Zealand. At 33 years old he became the first man to climb Mount Everest with Tenzing Norgay, they ascended the 29, 035ft peak on May 29, 2953. He spent the rest of his life leading expeditions to Antarctica and working to improve life of ethnic Sherpas of Nepal's Khumbu region. He was knighted for his accomplishments in 1953 and given the Order of the Garter 42 years later. New Zealand PM Helen Clark said, "Most of all he was a quintessential Kiwi."

Opinion: Sir Edmund Hillary led an amazing and long life. Not only did he finish what he set out to do he was also the first person to do it. Climbing Mount Everest in no small feat now and in 1953 it was considered near impossible. He was also very humble despite gaining celebrity status. He dedicated his life to improving others lives by building schools, hospitals, bridges, clinics, and airstrips. He was truly an inspirational figure.

I actually liked Bill R.

I didn't realize that Hillary was 6'5.
