National: Candidates Scrap for S.C. votes

Summary: In the final televised debate before the nation's first southern primary Republican candidates stressed different approaches their party should take if it expects to keep the White House. McCain was seeking to build on the momentum from his victory in New Hampshire and said Republicans needed to stop out of control spending. Huckabee urged the GOP to be interested in" single moms who are working two jobs, and still barely paying the rent." Mitt Romney said he knew how to bring change. Since 1980 the Republican to win in SC has won his parties nomination. Latest polls showed McCain leading Huckabee with Romney in third.

Opinion: The SC primary has been very important in the past in determining the Republican Presidential nominee but this year if remains to be seen whether the states effect will be so powerful in the face of an extremely bunched primary season. If McCain is able to pull out a win it will be a major boost to his campaign and propel him firmly into front runners seat and set him apart from the pack. Huckabee can probably expect to do well with his Bible toting image resonating positively in the Bible Belt region. It remains to be seen if Romney can win anything in a state with more than 1 million people. Giuliani doesn't expect to be much of a factor because he is betting the farm on Florida and has campaigned sparingly elsewhere.

International: Sarkozy can't stop the presses

International: Cecilia Sarkozy has failed in her attempt to stop the publishing of a book about her life. The book quotes the former first lady saying the President is a "womaniser", "cheap", and a "man who loves no one, not even his children". The Paris civil court hearing the case rule the ban would be "totally disproportionate", and the books went on sale Thursday. Cecilia is one of three books about the first lady to be published this week. The couples divorce and the Presidents relationship with Italian singer and ex-supermodel Carla Bruni has made headlines around the world and dominated the French tabloids sending President Sarkozy's approval ratings plummeting.

Opinion: She should be used to the spotlight by now. I think she is dumb for even trying to stop the book, that only lends credibility to whatever it says about her and the news coverage will only get the book more attention and make it more popular.

Losing SC, killed Fred Thompson.

What did she expect.
