NATIONAL: How the Polls Were Off

summary
The polls all said that Obama was wonderful and that there would basically be no way that Hillary Clinton could win but then she did. Several reasons people think that the polls were so off is that with all the media coverage people changed their minds, Hillary crying helped her, and that typically there is a clear cut winner but this time there was not so the public had to decide between two candidates that the public liked and agreed with.

I think that Hillary crying really helped her and that is why the polls were so off. I don't necessarily think that these two candidates are so liked. Obama most people don't dislike but Hillary most people either love or hate. I doubt the people that hate her even felt bad when her eyes welled up.


NATIONAL: Hillary Rodham Clinton's N.H. Speech

summary
She is so thankful for new Hampshire voting for her. As a group she and the people of new Hampshire "are in it for the long run! And that is because [they] are in it for the American people." The Clinton campaign is aimed at the middle class not just the privileged few. She wasn't to be able to help the invisible people like people who work hard but still are broke, the students who can't afford college, and other types. She has the hope to allow all people the chance of the American dream. She hopes they "answer the call to greatness."\

opinion
I think that this message is great but as a whole I don't think the people she described is the average democrat. many democrats are ill educated and do not know a whole lot about politics probably why they chose her to represent them. Hillary says that she want to enable the American dream but America only has about a 2-6% unemployment rate and that includes the people that don't even try to find a job. The American dream is still able to be achieved you just have to work for it. I don't see how she could change that. She says she wants to give honor to the veterans but i feel that McCain would do that even better than she. I think that this speech really said what most of the other runners could do. I do like the line when she says "Now New Hampshire, lets give America the kind of comeback that YOU HAVE JUST GIVEN ME." The way she stressed it was actually somewhat heartwarming. I like seeing people win but I still hope she doesn't.


INTERNATIONAL:Uday's New Face

summary
"Shot by insurgents for helping the American troops in Baghdad, an Iraqi man is now in New York, where surgeons work to reconstruct his shattered face."
"Uday is quite easy to love. Hi spirit is contagious. He is just beautiful" In the first weeks of the war translators were not targets. The translators did not wear vests to protect them. As a boy he loved English and as he grew older he decided to offer his talent to the American army.
he left the base one day and three men stopped him, one had a gun. They shot him. He had put his arm up to block his face and that took part of the bullet. the rest of the bullet went into his right eye. Uday lost his eye, his hearing, and his sense of smell. A woman found him over in the hospital and was able to personally arrange pro-bono surgeons. The woman and her sister paid for Uday to come to America. He is still a marked man even over here.

That is so sad. I hate how this happens I wish the American army could just go over there and kill who they are fairly certain are causing so many problems. I know that could turn out to hurt too many people but I think that this war now is nearly pointless. We are unable to progress. I am glad that there are natives like Uday to assist Americans. I think that Uday is an inspiration to Americans and other people in Baghdad that hope America will win. I think everything is a process and some day America will help the middle east even more than being able to reconstruct peoples faces.


INTERNATIONAL: China's Endangered Species

summary
In china there is one known female Yangtze turtle still living. The turtle is kept at a zoo where bullet proof class has been put up around her and a security camera has been installed. In China turtles represent health and longevity. China has already lost half of its wetlands due to the growing cities. About 40% of all kinds of animals are endangered. People eat turtles because they think by doing so they too will live long since turtles live so long. There is one male turtle still living. The zoo is going to perform artificial insemination. If that doesn't work they will move the boy turtle to the zoo that the girl is at so they can mate naturally.

opinion
I think they should just let the turtles mate naturally--it'd be more enjoyable for the turtles. I think it is interesting that the world is so sure those two turtles are the last too living. They thought that about dinosaurs too but then there is the Loch Ness monster which is just a dinosaur. I bet there are at least three more turtles in the wold. I think the turtle sis also cute when she walks and at the end when they hosed her off.
