Charges against Jena 6 defendant reduced
Charges against Bryant Purvis, a black student accused of being involved in beating a white student, was reduced to a second degree aggravated battery during his arraignment. Purvis, who was facing charges of second-degree attempted murder and conspiracy, entered a not guilty plea to the reduced charges in the LaSalle Parish Courthouse in Jena. Charges against Jesse Ray Beard, who was 14 at the time of the alleged crime, are unavailable because he's a juvenile.
Opinion
I think that the police should fix this and Bryant and the other black students should just be put to jail and suffer the consequences of beating this white student. I think that the authorities should question these students and ask why they beat this white student. I have no idea why these students would do such a thing like this.

Suspect captured in death of Florida deputy
Police captured an escaped prisoner suspected of fatally shooting a sheriff's deputy while being transported to court Wednesday. Michael Mazza is accused of overpowering and fatally shooting Deputy Paul Rein, then escaping in a prisoner transport van. Rein, a member of the sheriff's transport division for 20 years, was pronounced dead at North Broward Medical Cente. Hollywood police captured Mazza outside a pawnshop around 1 p.m. on Wendesday. The deputy's gun also was recovered, he said. Mazza now 40, was being taken to Fort Lauderdale for his trial on charges in a February armed robbery. Mazza already was serving two life sentences for earlier robbery conviction. Mazza was in a wheelchair in a medical transport van because of complaints of back pain. However, Authorities suspect Mazza was faking, Cohen added. Rein was shot and pushed out of the van and left in a Pompano Beach parking lot, while the suspect escaped with the van and the deputy's weapon. Mazza may have had an accomplice who attacked Rein.
Opinion
I am happy that this man was finally caught he now deserves to be put in jail for a long time because of what he did. I am very proud of our authorities for finding this murderer. I am glad that this man is now going to be put in jail for a very long time. I also happythat police still take the time look for fugitives that assasinate our authorities.

At least 9 dead in Finland's first school shooting; gunman dies
An 18-year-old student opened fire in a Finnish high school today, killing seven students and the principal before turning the gun on himself. The teenager, who was not identified, shot himself in the head but survived for a time. He died at Toolo Hospital. Theres was also a report stating that in 1989 a 14-year-old boy shot and killed two students, apparently for teasing him.Police said at a news conference after the attack that the gunman in Wednesday's attack shot the victims -- five boys, two girls and the female principal. About a dozen other people were injured as they tried to escape the school.
Opinion
I think that this whole thing about guns in schools is getting out of hand. More and more students are bringing guns to school it seems that schools are not being too protective about gun control in schools. Schools need to start being more protective and start securing schools now that students are bringing them to school. I think that if the school is really big then there should be securities around campuses.

Extra weight a risk? Not necessarily
Being 25 pounds overweight doesn't appear to raise your risk of dying from cancer or heart disease, says a new government study. However the news are not very good.Overweight people do have a higher chance of dying from diabetes and kidney disease.BUt, having a little extra weight actually seemed to help people survive some illnesses such as emphysema and pneumonia. The report analyzed specific causes of death along with new mortality figures from 2004 for 2.3 million U.S. adults.
Opinion
It is a good thing that overweight has helped some people overcome some illness but it is still bad that is may still cause diabetes and kidney disease. People should just start eating right and doing exercise so they won't suffer any diseases. It sad that most of our population is overweight and that would mostly be because of fast food. People should just eating too much fast food becasue as good that it may look it is still killing you.
