Sagebrush Seeds are Hope

Summary

The fires in Southern California are a serious threat to any real plant life there. One plant in serious danger is the sagebrush. Fortunately for the sagebrush’s survival in Southern California, there are people like Rachel Morgan and Angie Robles. These two ladies are volunteers from Caldwell, Idaho. They, with 70 other volunteers, began picking the ripe stems of sagebrush about 50 miles southeast of Boise. These volunteers intend for the sagebrush seeds to be planted in Southern California to repopulate the region.

Opinion

This is a nice thing these people are doing for California. It is too bad that these fires have to ruin so much terrain. These people are doing a great thing for the state of California. Despite how nice it is, however, it does not warrant much emotion from me, because I believe there are more pressing matters to deal with in this world than sagebrush repopulation, but that’s just me.

Chinese Holidays

Summary

China’s government sets aside three weeks a year for holidays for the workers. During this time, the factories shut down, and the workers go on vacation, all of them. Many decide to travel during this time period, but find it hard to compete with the other 1.2 billion people on vacation. The traveling businesses have a tough time supporting such a huge population at once. Because of this, the Chinese government plans to make new holidays and spread out the ones that already exist. One of the new holidays proposed is Grave-Sweeping Day. The topic of new holidays has sparked much debate.

Opinion

China needs to give its workers more of a break. They do make products for the entire world. China is huge, and letting all the workers off at once is not going to go well for anybody. However, this seems like a miniscule problem compared to all of China’s screwed-upness. China’s biggest problem is that it is Communist. This form of government is never for the people, but over the people. Communist governments exist for those in power, and, more specifically, the dictator.

Late Night Hosts Paying from Their Own Pockets

Summary
Many employees of NBC and other networks are not currently working because of the writers’ strike. Because of the writers not working, non-writing staff of networks are suffering. The non-writing staff has no job, and thus, no money. However, Conan O’Brien has pledged to pay the non-writing staff if the need should arise, but currently, NBC is covering the non-writing staff. David Letterman has made the same sort of pledge.

Opinion

These writers are causing a bunch of headaches. They’re really pissing me off. They are hurting the industry and their fellow employees. They are selfish and greedy. They think only of themselves and care not of the consequences of their actions. However, it is very nice of Conan and the others to be willing to pay for their staff.

Good idea.

China giving people time off--isn't that an oxymoron?

Need to be paid, but they are hurting other people and their occupations.
