National:
SUMMARY

A girl in Illinois was required to serve two days detention for hugging two of her friends—one guy and one girl. The hug was describes as simple and just one arm across the shoulder. The school has a policy prohibiting public displays of affection (PDA). Megan gave two hugs and was therefore automatically charged with a second offense so she had to serve two detentions. In sixth grade there was a D.A.R.E. program where the motto was hugs not drugs. The school contradicted itself and it’s handbook’s policy.

OPINION

The policy had been in affect for a decade so the girl should have known better. Although the school did have the D.A.R.E. program with the motto “Hugs not drugs” the school did not endorse either hugs or drugs being done on campus. I think she deserved the outcome. Detentions are not that big of a deal; just live with the consequence and break the rule in secret.

National:

SUMMARY

Aqua bead are being recalled. The beads are coated with a chemical that once inside the body transforms itself into the date rape drug. Children are playing with these toys and becoming seriously ill. In several cases children fell into a coma and were hospitalized for days.

OPINION

Good thing enough children were able to get sick and blame it on the toy…. What was China thinking? That country has sent several different toys to America that are not good for children. One such example is the fact that some of their toys are painted with lead based paint. We should start buying from other countries on a larger scale. Ifeel as though we are sponsoring chinas economy therefore their war department therefore their ability (and probably desire) to kill anyone they wanted to but especially Americans.

International:

SUMMARY

In the country of Somalia in the capital city, insurgents dragged Ethiopian soldiers dead bodies through the streets. One witness said "Ethiopians will launch violent attacks on us, for some of their comrades have been killed today," said Rahma Nor Omar, an elderly woman in the capital. "They will be like wounded animals." The soldiers display represented one similar in 19993 where the bodies belonged to Americans.

OPINION

That is horrible but true. I wish there were more countries with more laws so that the world was not as evil and chaotic as it is right now.

International:

SUMMARY

A ship from the US Navy helped a North Korean ship when they were in need of medical assistance. The North Koreans have stated that they wish to be taken off of our terrorist list. The men from the boat have said thank you profusely.

OPINION

That was nice of the ship people. I’m not certain I would really like to help another countries people that dislike my country so strongly.
