National: Teacher arrested in Mexico, boy released

In Lexington, Nebraska, a female schoolteacher was arrested in Mexico and the 13-year-old boy she allegedly ran away with was turned over to his relatives on Saturday. The teacher was a woman by the name of Kelsey Peterson. She was a 25-year-old sixth-grade math teacher and basketball coach at Lexington Middle School. She was arrested in Mexicali, a city on the border with California, says Dawson County Attorney Elizabeth Waterman. The two were found by Mexican authorities Friday evening. Peterson and the boy fled after police began investigating whether the two had an intimate relationship, authorities said.

Opinion: Umm can you say PEDOPHILE!!!! That is disgusting. The only time people can get away with relationships where the woman is almost 15 years older than the man is in Hollywood! And these two are obviously not in Hollywood. I don't know what this woman was thinking! How could she even think that she wouldn't get caught kidnapping a boy like this. My opinion of this story is that the lady is crazy.

International: Bombs kill 16 in Iraq

In Baghdad, bombs killed at least 16 people Thursday in attacks across the Iraqi capital and its northern suburbs. However the people there are more concerned about the threat of attacks by Turkey against the country's northern Kurdish areas. Iraqis worry that Turkish rebel attacks would spread disorder in one of the few relatively stable areas in Iraq. If Turkey were to attack it would put the U.S. in the middle of a fight between key allies: NATO-member Turkey, the Baghdad government and the Iraqi Kurds of Iraq's semi-independent Kurdistan region.

Opinion: I feel sorry for those innocent people in Iraq. They have done nothing wrong and their families are getting bombed and killed for no reason. There is no reason for us to be over there any longer. The people in Iraq do not want us there anymore and us staying there will do us no good. We are going to get tangled up in coming attacks and our allies.

National: Pets honored for saving owners

Toby, a 2 1/2-year-old golden retriever, and Winnie, a gray-eyed American shorthair, were named Dog and Cat of the Year by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. When Toby's owner Debbie Parkhurst choked on a piece of apple at her Maryland home, Toby jumped in landing hard on her chest and forcing the morsel to pop out of her throat. And when the Keesling family of Indiana was about to be overcome by carbon monoxide, their cat Winnie clawed at the wife Cathy's hair until she woke up and called for help.

Opinion: I wish I had a dog or cat that would save my life. However I don't ever recall myself being in a life threatening situation. Any who, it's funny to see that people actually have ceremonies for their animals. But I guess that since the animals saved peoples' lives they deserve some sort or recognition. All I have to say is "cool beans."

International: Attack by wolves kills Eskimo Villagers

A pack of wolves in Alaska have attacked a dog sled, killing three adults and three puppies. The attack was near the Eskimo village of Marshall. Local people are being warned to protect themselves for authorities fear that the wolves are infested with rabies. Ron Clarke, assistant director of the Division of Wildlife Conservation with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, said it was likely that all members of the pack are infected with the fatal disease. The locals have been warned to not go anywhere alone and to stay indoors after dark.

Opinion: Man am I glad that I don't live in Alaska! I don't know what I would do if I had to worry about being attacked by wolves on top of everything else I worry about! However the people in Alaska are probably used to this kind of thing. All I can do is pray for the safety of the community and hope for the best.
