HAYLEY BURNS

National:

Ordinance could ban trampoline from woman's front yard
Summary:
The trampoline that has been in Litchfield Park resident Frankie Barton's front yard for 10 years could be outlawed if one City Council member gets her way.
Armed with insurance industry statistics testifying to the danger of trampolines, Councilwoman Marcie Ellis brought the issue to the council last week. The council was considering an ordinance amendment that would ban the trampoline from the front yard by making it a public nuisance.
As that issue was bounced around, it led to plenty of discussion, including private property rights, passing special legislation to affect one family, safety, aesthetics, liability and whether such an ordinance is a trip down a slippery slope.
Opinion:
Who Cares? I sure don’t. If the trampoline and land are both hers than she should be able to put the trampoline wherever she wants. The claim that it is called a dangerous attractive nuisance is completely un-related; vehicles are both more attractive and dangerous. Does that mean they need to be kept in the back yard not the front??

Woman swindles man, 81, she met on dating site
Summary:
A 50 year old Chandler women and her son are suspected of money from an 81 year old Chandler man she met on an online dating site. Police believe there are other victims – Tempe man in his 70s and an Apache Junction man.
Ruby Marks encouraged the Chandler man to give her money in cash and property over a five and a half month period, according to Tempe police.
Opinion:
What??? First of all… a man that is 81 should not be on a dating site? Why would there be any reason for it? Next… umm how ruthless is this Marks lady and her son, stealing money from someone that’s old enough to be you grandfather. Crazy is the only word I can think of to describe her.
