Murphy James International Articles

1.Summary:

The Rwanda Genocide happend not all that long ago, and the reprocussions of that tragedy are still plaguing the country. But a group of women known as the Avega have begun to make woven baskets to sell at Macy's. Through doing so, the women bring in above the average anual income of $206. The group consists of both Hutus and Tutsis, the two main ethnic groups in conflict during the genocide. This program is a truly remarkable one for the women of the group, and hopefully will continue to prosper.

Opinion:
I love the fact that there is such a demand for the baskets they have woven. I also love the fact that women from both ethnic groups participate in Avega. Hopefully the women will be a light and symbol to their country and the two groups can successfully get along and move on from the horrors that the country experienced.
