University president: Campus gunman was good student
The man who shot 21 people and himself Thursday in a lecture hall at Northern Illinois University was a former graduate student who had an excellent record as an undergraduate.
A law enforcement source familiar with the investigation identified the gunman as Steve Kazmierczak, 27.
Seven people, including the shooter, were dead Friday morning in the wake of the rampage. At least four of the wounded were in critical condition.A preliminary investigation has not uncovered a police record on the gunman, and records showed he had no contact with university police while a student there.

opinion
these days there are too many gunshots and the security is not well prepared. though sudden gunshot is showed police can not do any thing about it. i feel sorry for the students who died from the gunshot.

Snow shuts down roads in San Diego County
A surprise storm lashed San Diego County with rain and snow, stranding as many as 500 motorists on a mountain freeway and pouring mud down onto another roadway but causing no major damage or injuries. A 27-mile stretch of Interstate 8, which runs through the mountains in the eastern county and is a main artery from California into Arizona, was reopened before dawn Friday following a 12-hour shutdown.
The California Highway Patrol began escorting cars through, although big-rig trucks still were not allowed. The freeway was closed shortly after 4 p.m. Thursday when blowing snow and ice made the roadway impassable.

opinion
anyone would feel suck when you are stuck and shut by a snow. snow is one of the dangerous nature that could shut everything. you cannot drive or walk. i believe there will be a lot of work going on to get rid of the snow. i hope they move the snow and open the road.

China promises $1.25B in storm aid
China will spend more than $1.25 billion to rebuild wrecked houses, restore farms and help the poor pay for food and heat in areas where snowstorms killed at least 107 people. Damage to food production should push up inflation that stands at decade-high levels, but the impact should be modest, finance and civil affairs officials said at a news conference.
Snowstorms that began Jan. 10 killed at least 107 people, wrecked crops and houses and ripped down power lines. Trucking and rail transport were disrupted, causing shortages of fresh meat and vegetables in some areas and pushing up prices.

opinion
i believe that china did a good thing recently to support the aid. the government must help and provide people to rebuild the houses and farms. because of lack of preparation, over 100 people died which is a disaster.

Myanmar's Karen leader killed
The Karen National Union secretary-general Mahn Sha was shot and killed Thursday in what the ethnic rebel group is calling an assassination by the Myanmar junta
Two gunmen attacked him at his home in Mae Sot, a town on the Myanmar-Thailand border. The rebel group has received numerous warnings that Myanmar's military leaders were planning to target and kill KNU leaders. The killing comes less than a week after Myanmar's ruling junta announced a plan to hold a referendum on a new constitution in May and national elections in 2010 -- a plan denounced by pro-democracy opposition leaders.

opinion
a general killed by assasin. where were the guards and securities. at least there would have had gaurds. it is sad that a general died. now there would be a change at 2010 election. one man is gone and we have watch what the others will do and plan. i am sorry for the leader.
