National: Miami shooting

Summary: One officer killed and 3 others shot in Miami. The suspect had been driving “erratically” in a complex in Miami, and after the cops tried to stop him the suspect fired back. Witnesses have been saying that the shots fired sounded very rapid like a machine gun. The officers are still not sure if the officers at the seen fired back. The suspect who has just recently been identified as Shawn Sherwin Laabet (age 25), still has not been found. The commander Linda O'Brien has siad that this suspect is most likely armed and dangerous. One the officers was killed, the others wounded. One officer is doin very well and will hopefully be released from the hospital sometime in Friday, the other two officers and theirr conditions have not yet been released.

Opinion: Hopefully the suspect will be found soon and when found the proper punishment will be released on him. What the suspect did was wrong, no question about it. By running from the crime has just made his punishment worse, even though the punishment for killing a man is pretty horrific. I don’t believe that the death penalty should be given to this man but definitly up to 40 something years or life in prison.

International: Italian’s strike over the raising of pasta prices

Summary: Thursday, nationwide protests were held over the price raising of the italian beloved food, pasta. The consumers of this food said that it wasn’t right to raise the prices because while commodities incomes go up, farmers and producers’ incomes are staying the same, leaving it hard for them to buy food. The Italians will soon beieng paying up to 20% more for there daily serving of fetticine, lasagna, and spaghetti. By protesting on thursaday they aet that day aside not to not eat pasta but to not buy it.

Opinion: If prices in food go up, it should be because of income prices rising and or shortage on that type of food. I believe that it is wrong for the italians to raise there prices on pasta. Many families will not be able to afford the food with there income. If they still change the prices they should also change the income of the famers and producers.

National: Battle of the Albums

On Spt 11, 2007, this past Tuesday two famous artist of the R&B industry, Kanye West and 50 Cent, released there brand new albums. The battle between who would sell the most had become a big uproar. 50 has said that if he did not sell the most albums that this album would be the last album he would release. Kanye has been more layed back about the whole thing. But this past Tuesday Kanye sold 457,000 albums the first day while 50 sold only 310,00. But when asked about his retirement 50 said that it was a big joke and that he wasn;t serious, and that he already has his next album completed. It has been said that this big uproar has just been a big hoax to sell albums and that Kanye West and 50 Cent are planning on touring together (but so far this is just a rumor and it hasn’t been confrimed).

Opinion: I think that this whole thing of battleing of the most sold albums is rediculous. Yes its show biz, but these two artists have completely different styles in music. I think that it is unfair to have them compared. I hope that it was all a hoax and I would love to see them both go on tour together. I think that that tour would be a big hit and if its money they want than that’s the way to go. Big bucks await that tour.

International: Indonesia…another earthquake

Summary: This past Thursday another earthquake hit the town of Jakarta, Indonesia. This was the fourth earthquake to hit this town in the past two days. This town has also been dealing with many after affects. They have reported no deaths, but issued a Tsunami alert, but later canceled it. Nothing can be done to help rebuild the town until they are sure the chain of earthquakes is done.

Opinion: I believe that all the people should be evacuated until they for sure that the chain of earthquakes is done. I believe that a lot can be done but not now, rebuilding this town right now seems inevitable, because of the repletion of the earthquakes. Like I always say the U.S. should lend help in any way they can. My heart goes out to the people that have lost their homes and belongings through this horrific repletion of earthquakes.

Sad story in Miami.

Check spelling and capitalization in Italian story.

I wish both would just go away.
