SUMMARY

In Chattanooga, Tennessee a plane crashed in a parking lot. All four passengers were taken to a hospital. A man, Robin Flores, was eating dinner at a nearby restaurant with his wife when he looked out of the window and first assumed he saw a car crash happening. Once he realized it was a plain crashing her rushed outside and looked for victims to assist. The scene was very quiet. There was a strong smell of fuel telling of a fire. There were vehicles that had been hit by the airplane. Flores was "very surprised that nobody was fatally injured. He went to the door and saw three people. First, the pilot was helped out of the plane. He had a head wound. Then, Robin Flores crawled in the space between the plane and the SUV that was underneath the plane to see if anyone could be helped in that vehicle. He could not see anyone in the SUV. By the time the police arrived at the scene Flores could answer several questions and aid the police in that regard. Flores helped because his "first thought was fire. I wouldn't wish death by fire on anybody. It just seemed like the right thing to do. Wasn't a big deal and then I left."



OPINION
Mr. Flores did a very nice thing. He truly was a good Samaritan. I hope that the people Flores was able to help are very thankful when they are able to talk with him. I think it was very brave to help the people. If he thought there was a chance of fire he was not immune to the same pain he feared for the plane crash victims. He reacted very well and was able to think clearly and the people could potentially owe Flores their life. saving people is definitely something to be proud of. I am glad that he was able to be interviewed to get the praise and acknowledgment.




International:
SUMMARY
Ethiopia celebrates the new millennium slightly later than the rest of the world. the people partied on September 12, 2007. The Black eyed peas performed at the celebration. Tickets to the celebration were well beyond the price of what the average citizen could afford. The festivities was a chance to think of other topics than the wars they fight. Prime Minister, Meles Zenawi, gave a speech saying how a thousand years from now other Ethiopians would think of the third millennium as the end of the dark ages for Ethiopia. The new millennium was the eve of the new millenniums renaissances. Ethiopia is the only country in the world which still follows the Ancient Orthodox Coptic calendar. The calendar Ethiopia uses is a version of the Julian calendar. The Ethiopian calendar has twelve thirty day months and one month (the thirteenth month) has five days except in leap years when the month contains six days.


OPINION
The fact that Ethiopia uses a different calendar is rather silly. They use an entirely different calendar system which can be confusing especially in history record keeping. I think the party was neat. I am glad a poorer nation like Ethiopia was able to celebrate in such a large way. I also believe that the speech Zenawi gave was nearly pointless because Ethiopia is not entirely still in the dark ages.



National
SUMMARY
Many popular musicians performed songs for the Dream concert which is for the erecting of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial in Washington D.C. Garth Brooks was stated as saying "Men worth -- deserving erecting a statue for are thin and this is just a great cause." the memorial will stand between t the Lincoln and Jefferson memorials. This will be the first person in history every to have a statue erected on the mall. Joss Stone believes that Luther changed the world not just America. The memorial should be completed in the next two years. His daughter believes the time the statue will be raised is perfect because of the election -- a black man and a woman are both running for President just what MLK talked about.


OPINION
The memorial is a wonderful idea. The memorial can hopefully carry on Luther's ideology better than just the forgotten words which are passed on regarding Luther. The fact that Luther is the only civilian to be on the mall is amazing as is the fact that British singer Joss Stone can refer to Luther as touching the world. I believe the statue will carry revive Luther's view on equality.



International:
SUMMARY
A lesbian couple had invitro fertilization are suing for being forced to raise two children Moments before the embryos were implanted the woman said she only wanted one embryo implanted. When the woman carrying the child found out two embryos had been implanted she "felt violated, extremely angry and went on to become extremely depressed," said the partner. The couple underwent difficult times. The woman who carried the children said she felt like her partner was no longer had the same ability to love her. Years have passed and the couples' two daughters are now three.


OPINION
I am biased and do not feel like gay couples should be able to raise children in general because of the mental trauma and the social teasing the couple's children could potentially have to endure. Past my bias though I do not feel bad for the couple. They should be thankful that the embryos were able to live. The doctor probably assumed one embryo would not be able to live and assumed he was helping the couple out. Although the decision was not right the doctor thought the decision was in the best interest of the couple. The fact that the women are suing is ridiculous. Just be happy you have children. You can not produce kids with two women and the fact that medicine has advanced so far as to be able to implant little children into another person is a miracle. Also the women want to keep this law suit private so their daughters are not hurt but having the lawsuit nearly guarantees the children will find out that one was not wanted. Also if the love of the couple is so weak to be torn up about having one unplanned child when one child was already planned the love was never very strong. The two should have considered worse case scenario before the embryo was even implanted.
