Seventy-six year old women, Doris Anderson was found in the Oregon wilderness after being missing for two weeks. The official search ended on August 31, when trace dogs had found no scent of her. In fact, her loved ones planned a memorial service for her this weekend. However, she was found a few hours ago by the authorities in the Wallowa Mountains. She had suffered a broken hip, and was suffering from dehydration when she was found. She was on a bowhunting expedition with her husband, but there truck got stuck. Her husband, Harold, went to get help. He ended up being rescued on Saturday, but when he went back to find his wife, she was gone. He and his daughters went to Boise, Idaho, where Doris would be treated, immediately after they learned of her rescue.
Opinion:
This is a miracle. What are the chances of finding a woman who had been missing for two weeks in the wilderness? Again, a miracle. I am sure her family is deeply relieved after learning of her rescue. It is also quite curious how the trace dogs or authorities could not even pick up a trace of her for two weeks. This is simply astounding. It is great to see stories of hope and salvation in this despondent world of ours. It is a joy to see someone being rescued instead of being killed, or other such calamities.

A Suburban police officer in Chandler,AZ this week left his police dog in his car all day. Bandit, the Belgian Malinois, was left in Sgt. Tom Lovejoy's car from about 9 a.m. to about 10 p.m. In that time, Lovejoy ran errands, took a nap, and went out to dinner with his wife. He found the dog dead when he returned to his vehicle. Sheriff Joe Arpaio commented that Lovejoy must be treated as any other deviant in his jurisdiction. Lovejoy will appear in court on September 25th and plans to not comment further on this ordeal. Chandler police chief Sherry Kiylar mentioned an internal investigation has been issued.
Opinion:
This is absolutely terrrible. How could a someone be so negligent? This is simply unexpectable. While the lives of humans are more valuable than those of dogs, dogs are still living creatures. Also, this was a specific police trained one. This is obviously a crime. Lovejoy deserves to be prosecuted for this. Although he indeed might be sorry and feel remorse, but he still needs to be treated as any other person in these circumstances. Police, like civilians, are not above the law, and should not be treated like they are.

On Thursday a bomb exploded in a crowd in Batna, Algeria, about 280 miles east of Algiers. This explosion killed 16 people and wounded around 74. This bomb detonated at the Al-Atik mosque. It was actually meant to kill Algerian president Abdelaziz Bouteflika. The local authorities said a man of about 30 to 35 years old walked into the crowd. His strange behavior was reported, but dropped the bomb and ran before he could be called in for questioning. It is not certain whether or not he died or is still alive from the explosion. This is yet another setback for North Africa, which is trying to close this bloody Islamic insurrection.
Opinion:
Ah yes, another fantastic attack via the Islamic insurgency. This wave of death has reportedly killed over 200,000 people in the North African area. Although the local governments are trying to get this under control, it is not helping. People continue to die. Serious action needs to be taken against radicals such as these. These people operate through fear and that is how they get their message across. Such is ridiculous and disgusting. (Cowardly as well) Again, something needs to be done...
International:
A week after the disappearance of the Pakistani troops, a bomb explodes on a Pakistani army bus. It killed at least 24 people. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attacks, but intelligence suggests it was the work of Islamic extremists. This should raise the level of violence to 'crisis' level in Pakistan, as political uncertainty mars the country as it nears its elections. However, the victims would not be identified, but the police said that most who had died were indeed military.
Opinion:
Uh, how disturbing life must be in Pakistan. This country is amidst a crisis. The violence seems to be continuous, it just will not stop. I am not totally aware of its current political situation, but whomever is in power needs to do something. This supposed political uncertainity is tearing the country apart. Yet, I am sure it can all be traced back to the Islamic insurgence. It seems as though a lot of things can be these days.
